Support for 28 Sisters in Cameroon

The Diocese of Kribi is in southern Cameroon, on the Gulf of Guinea. It covers an area of some 4,300 square miles, and roughly half of its 250,000 inhabitants are Catholic.

There are 28 sisters in the diocese, from eight different congregations. They care for those in need, and especially for children, mothers, the elderly, the sick, and indigenous people, formerly known as pygmies, who live in particularly precarious circumstances. At the same time, the sisters are also involved in the parishes, in catechetical work, and in preparing people for the Sacraments.

The sisters do not receive any payment for their tireless and invaluable work, and while they do receive a small amount of support from the diocese, the recent pandemic and the country’s general economic crisis have brought the local Church to its knees. Meanwhile, the needs of the people have only grown, and the sisters have less than ever before.

This is why Bishop Damase Zinga Atangana turned to ACN for help. And now, thanks to the generous support of our donors, we were able to provide $15,000 to cover the sisters’ most urgent needs, as well as the cost of their health insurance.

The sisters of the Diocese of Kribi express their heartfelt thanks to all of you!
